Need a wind-down drink that may help you drift off more easily? Chamomile may be the one for you.

Origin

Chamomile is an antioxidant-rich, daisy-like plant that can be found throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia. It has been a staple in herbal remedies for centuries and is widely known as a medical plant.

Chamomile for sleep & relaxation

Chamomile tea is a popular pre-bedtime tea due to its presumed sleep and relaxation properties. Chamomile contains a compound called 'apigenin', which is believed to have a mild tranquilizing effect.

A 2016 study focused on 80 Taiwanese postnatal women. One group received regular postpartum care, while the experimental group was instructed to also drink Chamomile tea daily for two weeks.

At the end of the study, it was found that the experimental group had significantly better sleep efficiency scores than the control group.

The best way to take Chamomile Tea

We recommend enjoying your Chamomile as a warm tea before bed, around 45 minutes to 1 hour before you want to sleep.

We recommend adding around 3g of tea to an infuser. Add 200-300ml of boiled water. Place the infuser into a mug or teapot and pour the boiling water over it. Steep for 5-10 minutes, making sure to time your tea. Once steeping has finished, remove the infuser and serve.
